What’s new
Introducing FLAG, a new category for calculating emissions from agriculture, livestock and land use. If your organization farms, manages land, or buys agricultural raw materials, you can now measure that footprint with the same rigor as every other category.
FLAG (Forestry, Land and Agriculture) is the category that frameworks such as SBTi require from agrifood companies. Until now, these emissions either sat outside the inventory or were roughly estimated. With this release they become part of your official calculation.
With FLAG you can:
- Create land management units with their country, province and typology
- Record crops across the 20 official typologies, from olive groves and vineyards to wheat, rice and almonds
- Add agricultural inputs: synthetic fertilizers, manure, organic amendments and liming
- Link facilities and vehicles you have already registered
- Distinguish between land you own and land operated by a supplier
How it works
Open your project and go to Categories, where you will find the Land management section. Click “New land management” and define the unit: name, country, province, and whether it is used for crops or livestock.
Inside each unit you can add your crops and then detail the inputs applied. You can also link existing facilities and vehicles, so their electricity, fuel and refrigerant consumption is automatically reclassified as land sector emissions.
Official factors by province
Crop calculations use official MITECO emission factors, differentiated by province, with global warming potentials from IPCC AR6. An olive grove in Jaén and an olive grove in Tarragona are not calculated the same way, because each province’s conditions are reflected in the factor applied. The result is a footprint far closer to the reality of your operation.
Why it matters
The ownership field does more than describe the land: it determines the scope. Owned land is accounted for in Scopes 1 and 2, while supplier land is allocated to Scope 3, Category 1. That classification happens on its own, with no need for you to decide where each data point belongs.
For agrifood companies, this unlocks the SBTi FLAG target and strengthens the reporting required under CSRD. And because land emissions appear in your visualizations, pivot tables and reports alongside every other category, you can finally see the true weight of agriculture in your total footprint.
