Diego Acuña, our latest addition to the Dcycle team.

Updated on
July 19, 2023

Right from the start, I became interested in Dcycle due to its focus on innovation, through cutting-edge technology and a very exciting context.

We talk to Diego (25), our latest addition to the product development department as a Full Stack Developer.

For those who don’t know you yet, can you tell us a bit about your background?

I was born in Lanzarote (Canary Islands), to a Spanish dad and a German mum (an interesting mix). At the age of 18, I went on permanent Erasmus to Madrid to study Software Engineering and get to know the big city life. When I finished university and started my professional career, I specialised in ReactJS and NodeJS. Since then, I haven’t stopped training myself through courses on the most used web technologies such as NextJS, Typescript or MERN architectures.

What motivates you most about working at Dcycle? How do you think it can help you develop as a professional?

The possibility of creating a solution that can improve the world, through modern development frameworks, innovative design and a motivated team. Dcycle is a project that meets all the requirements.

Right from the start, I became interested in Dcycle due to its focus on innovation,  through cutting-edge technology and a very exciting context. The professionals who are part of the team will certainly bring out the best in me and I hope I can do the same to develop a product that contributes to a sustainable economy.

Dcycle puts a lot of effort into the design to communicate sustainability. What is it like to work with this design perspective on a day-to-day basis?

It’s wonderful, when I thought about joining Dcycle one of the first things I did was to look at the website. I was impressed, it was easily the best-designed website I had seen so far: modern, intuitive, with powerful audiovisual content and a very clear message.

It really motivated me to develop a SaaS with the best possible user interface and user experience. I think it’s important to bring artistic value to what I develop, rather than just writing lines of code.

How do you face the challenge of developing a SaaS?

Ready and excited. I have always liked challenges and I plan to face this one with motivation. I will focus on the quality of the code and on achieving a scalable solution.

Until now, the idea of developing a SaaS had always seemed boring to me, the ones I knew were usually not very intuitive and full of information that made the user feel overwhelmed. But when I saw Dcycle’s proposal, straightforward for everyone who enters, displaying really valuable information through a fresh interface, it changed my perspective.

How do you think technology can help companies achieve their sustainability goals?

It enables us to provide valuable information and solutions in a short period of time. A process that used to require a lot of expertise and a huge Excel, now, thanks to technology, can be automated, making it easier for companies to become more sustainable.

We still have a lot of work ahead of us, we have to nurture our Machine Learning algorithms with data so that they learn and estimate more accurately. We need to develop a software architecture that is scalable and flexible. A SaaS that is attractive for companies to use on a daily basis.

Before finishing, tell us a bit more about your hobbies, anything you’d like to share!

I’ve tried going to the gym around 40 times but it has never worked for me. Then I tried rock climbing once with a friend and I loved it, it allows me to get out of the digital routine. I’ve always liked having a hobby that keeps me motivated, I used to skateboard and before that, I used to surf. I’ve never really stopped.

If you go to Sharma Climbing I’ll see you there!

I also love to develop in my free time, this summer many friends asked me for recommendations of places to visit in Lanzarote and I got tired of always sending them a text file, so I got down to work and created a website about places to visit, beaches to go to and nice restaurants to eat on the island. I’ll use this opportunity to spam a bit about my website.

Together with Diego, our latest addition to the development team, Dcycle continues to grow. If you want to get to know a bit more about the people who make up Dcycle, you can find out more here.
